  • Do you offer credit terms? [Long]
No we don't. We are a small, family run business and ask our customers to make a prompt payment at the conclusion of the treatment. Our paper bills and computer generated invoices state payment terms as ON RECEIPT. The vast majority of our customers pay promptly and believe that our service represents value for money. We endeavour to be transparent with pricing and while there are other companies that will undercut us or are cheaper (please go ahead and use them if that's what you need), we are certainly nowhere near the most expensive. Our growing customer base knows that this is a professional service requiring qualifications. Pest control is expensive. Membership of the British Pest Control Association and insurance is many hundreds of pounds annually. This association has a real benefit to our clients. The BPCA state that "by choosing a BPCA assessed member, you can be assured that the services you receive are from a trained, insured and trusted company that meets our strict membership criteria." Supplier costs are thousands every year, not to mention running a van, advertising, continuous professional development (20 hours minimum each year is required by the BPCA), bookkeeping and numerous other administration costs. As the company pest technician and coming into contact with many people needing help, I strive to be a decent, honest, trusting and trustworthy professional. It is a business and like everyone else I need to make a living. The business as an entity must stay in profit in order to continue. It is not a charity. It is not a dot org. How sad it is, to find a growing minority who can call in an emergency, desperate for help, completely freaked out because of some pest invasion, have their problem resolved by someone who responds quickly and then are so entitled and immersed in freebie internet culture, that they believe they don't need to pay for the service. Their response to requests for payment are complete ghosting. It does seem churlish to ask for payment in advance from someone who is distressed, but this is what we are going to have to do to circumvent this growing situation.

  • Do you offer credit terms? [Short]
No we don't. We are a small, family run business and ask our customers to make a prompt payment at the conclusion of the treatment. Our paper bills and computer generated invoices state payment terms as ON RECEIPT.
  • Can you help with bed bugs?
Yes absolutely. We have a BPCA bedbug certification and specialise in non-chemical eradication. This a different approach from traditional insecticide spray treatments and involves the use of super heated dry steam, non-toxic products, encasements, monitors, interceptor traps and education. The super heated dry steam eradicates all stages from egg to adult. Our non-toxic approach is safe and has the distinct advantage of allowing the client to remain in the property for the duration of the treatment.
  • What are the signs of a bed bug infestation?
There are a number of tell-tale signs that indicate the presence of bed bugs: 1) Seeing a flattish, apple pip sized bug. 2) Irritating bites often in rows on the upper body and legs. 3) Dark, ink-like faecal specks. 4) Blood spots and smears on the mattress and covers. 5) Small but visible empty, translucent cast skins. 6) Almond musty smell.
  • Gulls are building a nest - can I remove it?
No. Bird nests are protected under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981, so moving a nest at the wrong time could mean you're breaking the law. The RSPCA have stated: "Nests can't be moved or destroyed while they're being built or still in use - apart from under certain exceptions to allow the control of certain birds for specific reasons under licence."
  • When can a gull's nest be removed and deterrents implemented?
The suggested timing for managing gull problems is any time outside of the breeding season, which is September to March. This means there is a seven month window when this work can legally and safely be done.
  • Do I need to vacate my house during an insect treatment?
It depends on the insect and the type of treatment. Three Counties Pest Control specialise in non-toxic super heat treatments. These are particularly useful for bed bugs, fleas and carpet moths and because this is a non-toxic treatment the client doesn't need to leave the property. For infestations where a knockdown is needed, the treatment might require an insecticide space treatment. This requires full PPE for the technician and is only safe once the chemical has dried.
  • What insects do you treat?
Ants, Bed Bugs, Beetles, Booklice, Cockroaches, Fleas, Flies, Hornets, Mites, Moths, Wasps
  • Do you provide a mole catching service?
Yes, Three Counties Pest Control provide mole control for homes and businesses. For homes we offer a NO CATCH/NO FEE service Charges are £70 for the first mole caught and £35 for additional catches on the same treatment site No VAT Free survey and quotation for ongoing protection for businesses
  • Do you poison moles?
No. It is illegal to poison moles. There are some pest control companies that use Aluminium phosphide gassing, but Three Counties Pest Control use a variety of approved humane traps that are powerful and effective.
  • I have heard that anticoagulant rodenticides are harming wildlife - is that true?
Yes. A recent press release from Think Wildlife stated: "Rodenticide residues have been found in 88% of barn owls by the latest annual surveillance for the UK Rodenticide Stewardship Regime, operated by the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU). The previous year’s figure was 87%." When rodents or non-target creatures consume anticoagulant poison they can take days to die. When they are predated or scavenged secondary poisoning can occur. THREE COUNTIES PEST CONTROL LTD are listed as supporters of CRRU. We rarely use anticoagulant bait, but prefer to use the latest innovations from Bayer and BASF whereby the active ingredients are metabolised within the target creature and are not harmful to pets or wildlife. However, these new rodenticides are very toxic and particularly require customers with pets to be compliant in the way these treatments are positioned. There are many ways that bait can be placed safely so that only the target creatures, that is rats and house mice, can consume it. Need help with a rodent issue? Give us a call - we'll help.
  • Will my pets be alright? Can you treat the rats safely without harming my pets?
Yes your pets will be alright and the treatments for rats won't harm your pets or any non-target creatures. Three Counties Pest Control always do risk assessments, are careful about the positioning of traps and rodenticides and are particularly keen on brand new products that avoid the secondary poisoning issues that have affected the reputation of the pest control industry.
  • I have rats in my garden, they have been there for about six months now, if I leave them alone will they eventually move on?
People have different tolerances when it comes to rats. I get phone calls from people who have seen one rat running across the garden. It seems you haven't been so bothered, but if they have been around for six months then that suggests there is an issue. They are prolific breeders so you are probably observing more of them. Also, they stay because your garden in some way is ideal. They want harbourage, food and water. Are there areas of the garden that are overgrown or have some building debris or clutter that you've been meaning to take to the dump? Do you have chickens? Do you feed the birds? Is there a pond? In the long run it would be worth considering denying them anything that keeps them local and I would be happy to advise. Leaving them alone will escalate the problem and could affect your neighbours, but we have safe and effective treatments which can be implemented immediately.
  • Should I hose a wasp nest?
You might think that to turn the hosepipe on a nest would drown the wasps and eradicate the nest. All the evidence suggests turning the hose on to wasps not only fails to eradicate the nest, but makes them aggressive. This can be very dangerous especially if you are not wearing PPE. Three Counties Pest Control have the expertise, PPE, equipment and range of professional insecticides to deal with any nest.
  • Can you get rid of a wasp nest in the attic?
Yes. We have a variety of tools and treatments to deal with nests internally and externally.
  • How can you tell if it is a wasp or a hornet?
Wasps are black and yellow, whereas the hornet is brown and yellow. It can have an obvious reddish hue. If you're thinking that they're very large wasps, then chances are they are hornets as they are twice the size of wasps. Should you try and treat a nest yourself? Wasps can be very aggressive and this can be very dangerous if you or others in close proximity don't have PPE. Hornets are typically less aggressive than wasps, but the sting of a hornet is much more painful than wasps and bees, due to the chemicals in the venom. GOT A WASP OR HORNET NEST? * For just £70 Three Counties Pest Control can deal with any nest internally and externally. * We apply a 50% discount for any additional nests on site treated on the same visit. * Please let us know if you would like the nest removed once the treatment has concluded.
