DO ULTRASONIC SOUND EMITTERS DETER MOLES?
Retailers selling these products make very strong claims as to the efficacy of these mole repellent devices.
For example: "Thanks to the sound waves emitted, the device effectively repels moles, field mice and voles without the use of harmful chemicals."
There is anecdotal evidence that ultrasonic sound emitters deter moles, with people saying that they haven't had moles since placing them in the ground. Does that mean that they actually worked to repel moles or would they still have been mole free without them?
Here are a couple of conflicting reviews:
"I had a set like these, however unlike those, these make a noise. I believe that contributes to being a deterrent."
"What a waste of money. The mole burrowed under the sonic repellant and overnight made two new mounds. Don't buy them, they don't work."
One well-known pest control YouTuber has stated that these sound emitters are a scam and don't work.
In reality, there is no scientific consensus or data that proves these devices work. Someone can believe that they work, so it is a judgement call as to whether to purchase them.
The photo above is one I took on a client's lawn. It tells a story.
Three Counties Pest Control are trained mole catchers and follow the codes of best practice established by the BPCA and The British Mole Catchers Register.
