WHAT DOES A CARPET MOTH INFESTATION LOOK LIKE?
A really bad infestation can be seen in the first photo above.
There are hundreds of maggot-like larva, that are largely hidden, until you starting moving furniture and find them underneath, all over the carpet, up the wall and even on the ceiling.
The clues pointing to a carpet moth infestation can be adult moths fluttering or invariably dead as their life expectancy is only 30 to 45 days. In that time, the female moth can lay between 40 and 100 eggs. The eggs hatch and the larva is the longest lived stage in the lifecycle - up to 30 months to eat the keratin in the natural fibres of carpets and clothes.
The second photo above shows the damage done to carpets.
Moths lay their eggs hidden away and the full extent of the damage is only revealed when furniture is moved.
