Pest control is evidence based.
When a pest controller is engaged by a client, the first thing to be sure of is what creature is causing the problem. The client's testimony and feedback is vital.
They may have seen the pest with their own eyes, but often it's something they've heard, for instance noises from the loft. Or it maybe that they are being bitten by an insect, but haven't seen the offender.
Often a visual inspection will suffice. Sometimes it's a case of using monitoring tools to establish beyond doubt what the pest is. This is important, because the way pests are treated and controlled varies. For instance the way you deal with a rat, is different from a squirrel or a mouse.
A really useful monitoring tool is a wildlife camera. My cameras recently helped to establish what was running around in the walls of a property. Something sounded very noisy and large.
A well placed camera produced the incontrovertible evidence as you can see above. It was a stoat and probably a female finding somewhere to give birth and raise young to the point of leaving and living their lives in nature as predators. Once they've left, we can do some proofing to keep rodents and returning stoats out.
